A fuel cell system (14) comprises at least one fuel cell and at least one combustion engine (24) by which thermal and/or mechanical and/or electrical energy can be produced. Preferably there is an electric generator (98) to drive a combustion engine and preferably a reforming unit (68) to produce hydrogen coupled to the combustion engine. An independent claim is also included for obtaining the energy forms as above.
