<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To damp the impact of a valve element by a solenoid force when it is seated and, more preferably, simplify the structure of a drive force transmission portion for transmitting a drive force to the valve element in a control valve for a variable displacement compressor. <P>SOLUTION: In this control valve 1 for the variable displacement compressor, a support structure composed of spring retainers 43, 44 and a spring 45 is formed in a plunger 33. The support structure supports a shaft 17 on the plunger 33 displaceably relative to each other when the valve element 18 is seated on a valve seat 16. Therefore, the impact force of the valve element 18 by the solenoid force when the valve element 18 is seated can be damped. Also, since the valve element 18 is formed integrally with the shaft 17, the structure of the drive force transmission portion transmitting the drive force to the valve element 18 can be simplified.
