A similar sentence search system capable of obtaining a sufficient search accuracy when searching for a similar sentence includes: similarity calculation means (1), example-sentence storage means (2) for storing example-sentences, and similarity storage means (3) for storing similarity. The similarity calculation means (1) includes: input character string storage means (11) for storing input sentences and example-sentences; local distance calculation means (12) for calculating a local distance according to the character string stored in the input character string storage means (11); local distance storage means (13) for storing a local distance; path decision means (14) for controlling calculation performed by accumulated distance calculation means (15) according to the character string information stored by the input character string storage means (13); accumulate distance calculation means (15) for calculating a new accumulated distance according to the local distance and the accumulated distance stored in the accumulated distance storage means (16); and accumulate distance storage means (16) for storing accumulated distance. The accumulated distance calculation means (15) executes calculation according to control of the path decision means (14).
