An apparatus and a method for detecting the connection state of an auxiliary terminal are provided to be capable of detecting an external signal inputted to the auxiliary terminal from an external apparatus regardless of a DC level of the external signals. A DC remover(11) removes a DC component from an external signal inputted to an auxiliary terminal(10) of a signal reproducing apparatus. A controller(14) detects the external signal without the DC component. The controller determines whether the auxiliary terminal is connected to or disconnected from the external apparatus based on a level of the detected external signal. The DC remover includes a capacitor, of which one side is connected to the auxiliary terminal.
