A hinge has two hinge leaves 24, 26 and a fastening for locking the two leaves together to block hinge action. The fastening may have components in both hinge leaves and can be released to allow the hinge to open. The fastening may be a screw 34 which is held captive in one leaf and can screw into a socket on the other leaf to hold the hinge closed. The hinge leaves can be attached to their respective components by inserts 30, 32, one of which holds the screw and the other of which holds the screw threaded socket. The inserts may have screwdriver accessible sockets. The hinge may be used for connecting a staff bead 18 to the frame of a sash window 10. The staff bead 18 may provide a vertical surface to guide the movement of the window sash 10 or may be swung out of its way to allow the window to be removed for cleaning or maintenance. |
