PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which smudging of a conveying means or deterioration in image quality due to rubbing on the recording surface can be prevented without causing decline in image recording efficiency or increase in power consumption during double-sided recording. SOLUTION: When image recording is performed in an ink jet recorder 100, a conveyance belt 2 begins to turn counterclockwise to convey a sheet 3 from a sheet feed tray 4 onto the conveyance belt 2, and a predetermined full color image is recorded at a predetermined timing by ink jet heads 1a-1d. A heater 31 and a switchback unit 13 are arranged sequentially from the upstream side below the conveyance belt 2. In the case of double-sided recording mode, the sheet 3 is conveyed while being attracted to the conveyance belt 2 by electrostatic attraction, and the sheet 3 is turned over by the switchback unit 13 after ink on the image recording surface is dried when it passes through the heater 31.
