PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the transmission loss of driving force from a camshaft to a valve during the lifting motion of the valve in a variable valve system. SOLUTION: The rotary motion of a driving cam 122 is transmitted to a swing member 140 through intermediate rollers 172, 174. The intermediate rollers 172, 174 are connected in a swingable manner to a swing fulcrum 166 fixed to a control shaft 132, by connecting members 164. The connecting members 164 are arranged to by-pass the control shaft 132 on the reverse side to the positioned side of a valve support member 110. The swing fulcrum 166 is provided in an eccentric position from the center of the control shaft 132, and the swing fulcrum 166 is disposed in a position on the reverse side to the intermediate rollers 172, 174 with the control shaft 132 held in between when the control shaft 132 is at a predetermined rotating angle. The swing fulcrum 166, the control shaft 132 and the intermediate rollers 172, 174 are preferably arranged almost on the same straight line. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
