1395634 Starting BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE AG 22 June 1972 [22 June 1971] 29300/72 Heading F1K Fuel supply system for mixture-compressing I.C. engine has a fuel pump which is arranged to deliver an additional volume of fuel into one or more induction pipes during the starting process, the volume of fuel delivered being determined from the time the engine starter is operated by at least one pre-set and/or temperature dependent timing member, the fuel supply system including control means to maintain the delivery of fuel independently of the time interval during which the starter is operating until the end of a time interval determined by the pre-set and/or temperature-dependent member. An electrically driven fuel pump 3 delivers fuel from a tank 1 to an electro magnetically operable fuel valve 4 and to valves 9 which inject fuel into induction pipes 6. The valve 4 allows fuel to pass directly to a manifold 5 to supply the additional fuel required during starting. When the starter is operated by the switch 21 and the ignition switch 20 is also closed, voltage is applied to a relay 12 which is earthed through a pre-set transistorized timing circuit 11 and also through the bi-metal contractor 10" of a temperature dependent timing device 10. If the starter switch is opened before the timing devices operate to de-energize the relay 12, the valve 4 remains open so that the full quantity of additional fuel is delivered.
