PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a select assist device for an automatic transmission having a higher degree of freedom in layout by achieving the miniaturization of a select lever and a select lever operating force property as required while permitting range change-over operation during fueling by the mechanical connection of the select lever to a select position changeover device. SOLUTION: A controller 3 is composed of an actuation stop determining part 31 for determining an actuation stop by comparing a relative displacement amount with an actuation threshold, a target relative displacement setting part 32 having a predetermined value at starting actuation for setting a target displacement amount which gradually reduces toward zero after actuation, and a drive command value computing part 33 for computing a drive command value to make the relative displacement amount approach the target relative displacement amount.
