PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which protects the open end of a light tunnel. SOLUTION: The projector has a light source 60, a color wheel 70 which is arrayed with color filters of R, G, and B, a moving mechanism 110 which moves the color wheel, a DMD which modulates illuminated light, a projection lens 102 which projects the light modulated by the DMD, and a light tunnel 92 which is disposed between the color wheel 70 and the DMD 50. The projector comprises a color display mode in which the light from the light source is made incident through the color wheel 70 on the light tunnel 92 when the color wheel 70 exists in the first position, and a black and white display mode in which the light from the light source is made incident through the color wheel 70 on the light tunnel 92 when the color wheel 70 exists in the second position. The projector has a protective plate 150 which covers the open end part 93 of the light tunnel 92 cooperatively with the movement of the color wheel 70 in the black and white display mode.
