SOLUTION: This traveling controller is provided with: a detection part 101; an acquisition part 102; a recognition part 103; a speed control part 104; and a lane recognition part 105. The detection part 101 detects a traveling vehicle traveling ahead the vehicle. The acquisition part 102 acquires the current location information of a vehicle and the map information of the periphery of the current location of a vehicle. The recognition part 103 recognizes road circumstances ahead the vehicle based on the acquired current location information and map information of the vehicle. The speed control part 104 controls the speed of the vehicle so that the vehicle can travel at a set speed when the preceding vehicle is not detected, and controls the speed of the vehicle so that the vehicle can follow up the preceding vehicle at the set speed or less when the preceding vehicle is detected.
