PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outdoor unit for an air conditioner capable of carrying out improvement of fire preventing performance, and improvement of cooling efficiency of electrical components. SOLUTION: A fixing part 21 of a shield plate is fixed to a neighborhood of a lower end rim of an opening 15 of a casing 1. In the shield plate 20, on part of a step part 22 continuous with the fixing part 21, a flat part 23, and a bent part 24 are arranged in the casing 1. A tip of the bent part 24 abuts on an inner side face of an upper end neighborhood of the opening 15 of the casing 1. Intrusion of flame into the casing 1 from an upper end of the opening 15 is prevented. By forming a gap between a side rim of the opening 15, and the flat part 23 of the shield plate, and forming an air flow passage, ventilation is provided in the casing 1, and the cooling efficiency of the electrical components in an electrical component box 10 is improved.
