PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine attaining uniform combustion with faster combustion speed by forming a plurality of strong tumble streams in a cylinder irrespective of a required intake quantity. SOLUTION: The cylinder injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine is provided with a fuel injection valve 3 arranged almost at the center of the upper part of the cylinder, and a plurality of ignition plugs 4, 5 arranged around the fuel injection valve. The fuel injection valve has a plurality of injection holes for injecting a plurality of fuel obliquely downward to a cylinder bore so that fuel passes near each ignition plug. In a uniform combustion operation region, the fuel injection valve injects fuel from the plurality of injection holes at the end of an intake stroke, and each fuel injected from each of the plurality of injection holes flows down along the cylinder bore by complete penetrating force to form each of tumble streams T1, T2 ascending in the center part of the cylinder.
