<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively remove a foreign matter such as paper powder, dust and residual toner on a transfer roller and a similar foreign matter accumulated and stuck to the transfer roller by using a liquid carrier in liquid developer. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, a foreign matter removal mode is performed to a secondary transfer roller 46 and a secondary transfer roller cleaner 47 when a foreign matter removal mode start condition is formed. In the foreign matter removal mode, a white solid image for cleaning formed on an intermediate transfer belt 10, comprising nonvolatile liquid carrier, and formed longer than the peripheral length of the secondary transfer roller 46 is stuck to all the periphery of the secondary transfer roller 46 from the intermediate transfer belt 10 so that its stuck amount may be larger than that in normal image forming. Much liquid carrier on the secondary transfer roller 46 is removed together with the foreign matter by the secondary transfer roller cleaner 47 made to press-contact with the secondary transfer roller 46. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
