A mobile terminal interworking with a disaster rescue system and a method are provided to allow a user to differentially transmit a disaster message through his/her mobile terminal to a disaster rescue system so that his/her location can be accurately recognized. A message transmitting unit(310) generates a disaster message according to a certain input and transmits it to a disaster rescue system through a mobile communication network. A timer(320) measures time after the disaster message is transmitted. A controller(330) measures the strength of a communication signal with neighbor base stations according to the transmitted disaster message, controls the message transmitting unit(310) to periodically transmit the disaster message to a base station with the strongest signal strength, and controls the message transmitting unit(310) to transmit the disaster message at shorter periods when a certain time lapses according to the time measured by the timer(320).
