PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cooling a steel plate by which a thick steel plate can be cooled uniformly without causing any warping over its entire length in a controlled cooling process. SOLUTION: In this method, the steel plate is hot-rolled, and then cooled by using cooling nozzles which have many nozzle holes and spray two fluids of air and water individually or simultaneously in a method for cooling the steel plate in high-temperature state from the upper and lower surfaces of the steel plate by conveying the plate while restraining the steel plate of high temperature after rolling with a plurality of sets of upper and lower dewatering rolls. When the supplied water is small in water quantity or low in water pressure, a stable spray pattern is obtained by excluding the air which is able to enter the flow passages which reach the tip of a cooling equipment. The equipment for performing the above method is a steel plate cooling equipment comprising an outer header having a supplying system of air, a lot of air jetting nozzles lined up and arranged on the air jetting surface of this header, an inner header having the supplying system of cooling water, and a lot of cooling water jetting nozzles lined up and arranged on the cooling water jetting surface of the header.
