PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device not requiring a user to memorize the combination of keys for every character, and for enabling retrieval by a few depressions, and for facilitating an operation, thereby causing less erroneous operation. SOLUTION: This character input device is provided with a depression time deciding part 13 for classifying the measurement values of the depression continuing time of input keys based on a first threshold; a continuous depression deciding part 15 for deciding the continuous depression based on the measurement value of a non-depression time between the previous depression and current depression; an input candidate character selecting part 18 for acquiring characters corresponding to the information as an input candidate character; and a display part 20 for displaying characters selected as input characters by a user from the input candidate characters.
