PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of suppressing torque variation during post-injection while properly maintaining catalyst temperature without deteriorating fuel economy and increasing the amount of smoke exhausted. SOLUTION: This control device for the internal combustion engine comprises a fuel injection means (a fuel injection valve 14) jetting a fuel into the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine E, a fuel injection control means (included in an ECU 18) controlling the fuel injection from the fuel injection means to be separated into a main injection and an auxiliary injection during one fuel injection process, and an intake flow control means (an intake control valve 5 and an EGR control valve 13) controlling the intake flow into the combustion chamber. While the auxiliary injection is performed, the control device controls to provide a predetermined air-fuel ratio set beforehand by changing the intake flow fed into the combustion chamber according to a change in injection amount during the auxiliary injection.
