PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side trimming or slitting method for a metal band, restraining plastic deformation of both sides of a metal strip or a metal band at both sides by a simpler means, without damaging a product plate. SOLUTION: According to this side trimming or slitting method for a metal band, in cutting the metal band along the conveying direction by disk-like upper blade 20 and lower blade 21 disposed to relatively rotate on the upper side and lower side in the midway of the conveying line for delivering the metal band 1, both edge parts of the metal band are held lightly, extending over a predetermined length by upper and lower clamping members 3, 4 in a cutting part area.
