Shape or amplitude of reference pulses in a radar level meter typically depend on the component quality of the circulator or of an interrogator/responder coupler used or on the temperature of the circuit. Large echoes in the short range may impair quality of measurement. According to an embodiment of the invention, a radar module is used to extract a reference signal for a radar level meter, said module comprising a tap for extracting the reference signal and a delay line for delaying the transmit signal. The transmit signal is delayed on its path to the antenna once the leakage pulse is extracted.
