摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To materialize desired effects such as protection of a sensor element and early stage activation of the sensor by appropriately exciting a heater after engine start. <P>SOLUTION: DPF 31 as an exhaust emission control device is installed in an exhaust pipe 16 of the engine 10, and an oxygen concentration sensor 32 including the sensor element 60 detecting oxygen concentration in exhaust gas and the heater 68 heating the sensor element 60 is installed in a downstream of the DPF 31. ECU 40 controls excitation of the heater 68 to put the sensor element under a predetermined activation condition. The ECU 40 especially calculates heat quantity data corresponding to heat balance of a section close to a sensor installation section of the exhaust pipe 16 based on operation conditions of an engine 10 and a vehicle, and performs dry determination in the exhaust pipe 16 based on the heat quantity data.
