PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for die-quenching a ring type article with which the die-quenching having little thermal-deformation and good precision to the circularity etc., can be performed and this method can be applied to the plurality of kinds for ring type articles having different sizes and can be obtained with little working process and simple apparatus. SOLUTION: The die-quenching method contains; a heating process for heating the ring type article 10 to the quenching temperature; and a cooling process for cooling from the quenching start temperature till the quenching finish temperature at lower temperature than the martensite transformation point under state of pressing restrictive dies 11, 12, inclined in such a way that one side of the peripheral edge in the outer peripheral edge and the inner peripheral edge in the two surfaces of the ring type article 10 approaches to the other peripheral edge side with the increase of separation distance from the ring type article 10 in the axial direction. The die-quenching apparatus is provided with a heating part and a cooling part, and the cooling part has both holding means for upper/lower dies, with which the restrictive dies 11, 12 can be held so as to press against the peripheral edges of the upper/lower side surfaces of the ring type article 10 whose both surfaces direct to the upper and lower sides.
