PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium feed mechanism capable of preventing occurrence of meandering, double feed, and jamming in a medium when feeding the medium with a supplementary paper affixed thereto. SOLUTION: When setting a medium 1 with a supplementary paper affixed thereto on a medium contact surface of a backup plate 5, a screw shaft 19a and a plate 19b backup plate 5 are turned around a supporting point shaft 18 by a motor 18 based on the change information of the angle of inclination to be input from an input means (not shown), and the medium contact surface is changed by a small angle of inclination. Thus, even a bundle of the medium 1 with the supplementary paper affixed thereto can be set on the medium contact surface of the backup plate 5 without any collapse attributable to the difference in thickness, and the medium 1 can be consistently taken in by a first take-in roller 7.
