PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To greatly reduce an uncut portion of a medium after cutting, and to improve a throughput of cutting, and further to save electric power. SOLUTION: Cutting apparatuses 10, 11 for cutting the medium along a cutting line comprise a cutter 58, a penetration detecting section 120 for detecting whether or not the cutter has penetrated the medium, a moving section for cutting the medium along one cutting line by relatively moving the cutter a plurality of times along the cutting line while bringing the cutter into contact with the medium until the penetration detecting portion has detected that the cutter has penetrated the medium, and a cutting times storage section 130 for measuring and storing the number of cutting times for the one cutting line when the penetration detecting section has detected that the cutter has penetrated the medium. In this case, the moving section cuts the medium along the other cutting line by relatively moving the cutter while bringing the cutter into contact with the medium by the number of cutting times stored in the cutting times storage section.
