PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detection device capable of detecting/tracking a preceding vehicle surely without depending on the state around own vehicle such as a front road state, and suppressing a problem of an obstacle caused by irradiation of an electromagnetic wave to a person existing in a detection domain. SOLUTION: A road shape recognition part 30 recognizes a road shape in front of own vehicle and imparts it to a radar control part 1. The radar control part 1 sets a specific reference domain so that a detection ability is heightened on a position at a prescribed distance on the front road based on the received road shape, and sets the transmission beam intensity on the specific reference domain to be higher than the transmission beam intensity on other reference domains. In this case, the radar control part 1 sets so that the total energy amount per unit time based on continuous irradiation of each transmission beam intensity is equivalent to a specified value. When an object is detected, a reference domain including the detected object is set as a new specific reference domain, and a distribution of the transmission beam intensity is reset, and object detection is continued.
