A power amplifier of high gain and high efficiency is provided to improve whole efficiency by using a combination of asymmetric input division and peripheral scaling of an amplifying apparatus. A power amplifier of high gain and high efficiency includes a main amplifying circuit(40), a sub amplifying circuit(46), and a splitter circuit. The main amplifying circuit(40) has a plurality of amplifying stages including a driving stage(42). The sub amplifying circuit(46) has a plurality of amplifying stages including a driving stage, and operates selectively to corporate with the main amplifying circuit(40). The splitter circuit operates to divide an input signal between paths(56,58) through the main amplifying circuit(40) and the sub amplifying circuit(46). The driving stage of the sub amplifying circuit(46) has a higher rated power than the driving stage(42) of the main amplifying circuit(46) to provide gain asymmetry to the paths(56,58) of the amplifying circuits(40,46).
