PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a technique of inhibiting endotoxin shock and the like, since a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is called endotoxin, is freed from Gram-negative bacteria, is known to cause various reactions in the living body, activates the complement in the second pathway to release macrophage, cytokines from other cells, and other immune suppression substances, allows excess cytokines and the like to exhibit toxicity in the host to sometimes invite death such as shock, and comes to a big problem. SOLUTION: Galectins 1 and 9, stabilized galectin 9, and a galectin 9-inducting factor exhibit endotoxin shock inhibition activity and are useful in controlling (or inhibiting) endotoxin or the phenomenon of its related general response of body, and in the treating agent and/or the preventing agent for diseases/disorders caused by their activity and its treating and/or preventing method, and furthermore useful in treating and/or preventing inflammation and inflammatory diseases, particularly inhibiting bacterial infectious diseases, bacteremia, sepsis, septic shock, endotoxin shock and the like.
