PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rope exchange method with less course of action capable of easily performing exchange in a short time. SOLUTION: The rope exchange method is provided with a first taking out step for rotating a lateral advancement drum 37 in one direction and removing a sea side rope 55; a second taking out step for connecting one end of a land side rope 59 to a disposing drum 67 and rolling up it on the disposing drum 67 to remove it from the lateral advancement drum 37; a connection step for a connection end 57 of the sea side rope 55 to a connection end 61 of the land side rope 59; and a rolling up step for rolling up all these ropes on the disposing drum 67. Further, the method is provided with a paying out step for paying out a new rope from a new rope drum 69 wound with a connected new sea side rope 73 and a new land side rope 75 toward the lateral advancement drum 37; a separation step for releasing the connection of the new sea side rope 73 and the new land side rope 75 on a midway of the paying out step; a first rolling up step for rolling up the new land side rope 75 on the lateral advancement drum 37; and a second rolling up step for rolling up the new sea side rope 73 on the lateral advancement drum 37.
