PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which display format of a part of image described on a document can be altered by a convenient work. SOLUTION: A symbol detecting section 61 detects a display format specification symbol and a character specification symbol described on a document, a character specifying section 62 specifies an alteration object character according to a detected character specification symbol, and a display format altering section 63 performs image processing for altering the display format of the alteration object character to a display format indicated by a detected display format specification symbol.
