PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reclining device which may retain a strong biting condition between outer teeth of a pole and inner teeth of a ratchet plate. SOLUTION: On a cam 44 which is rotatably set around a hinge pin 31 being the rotation center axis, and applies pressing force on the backside of a pole 34 by the rotation of the cam 44 to move outer teeth 35 of the pole 34 to a direction of inner teeth 33 of a ratchet plate 32, a facing surface (a first surface 45) facing the backside of the ball 34 upon biting between the outer teeth 35 and the inner teeth 34 is arranged. When the pole 34 is tilted against a lower arm plate 30 by a load acting on the outer teeth 35 in the rotation direction, the facing surface of the cam 44 is made to abut on a position on the backside of the ball 34 shifted to the rotation direction of the cam 44 from a position where the cam 44 applies pressure force.
