PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To design a bed system for patients of a type to save more space and to guarantee the highly functional reliability at the same time. SOLUTION: The bed system for patients comprises a bed for a patient, a support column for supporting the bed, and a cart for carrying the bed. The bed has a first connection element 22 disposed on the bed itself to be selectively connected to a second or third connection element 24 or 26 in the support column or the cart. The first connection element 22 has clearance 40 with an outside contour 38 and an inside contour 42. The second and third connection elements 24 and 26 have each an outside contour 58 matching the inside contour 42 of the clearance 40 in the first connection element 22, and are designed as a guide tenon to be engaged with the clearance 40. The third and second connection elements 26 and 24 are designed to receive the first connection element 22 and to have clearance with an inside contour 50 matching the outside contour 38 of the first connection element 22.
