A control system (20) to dynamically control the operation of a machine (10), in particular a vehicle, using information obtained from a remote entity (230) eg via the internet includes a controller (18) configured to determine a position of the machine using for example a GPS-receiver. The controller is configured to query the remote entity for information related to the position of the machine. The queried information may include environmental data such as local temperature and pressure, speed limit information, topographic information, or governmental regulations. The controller may also be configured to automatically control at least one operation of the machine based on the information receive from the remote entity. The controlled operation may be the engine speed limit, fuel-to-air ratio setting, regeneration of an exhaust element.
