<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide mesoporous carbon with improved surface resistance characteristics, to provide its production method, and to provide a fuel cell using it. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing mesoporous carbon comprises the steps of: mixing mesophase pitch, a carbon precursor, an acid, and a solvent to obtain a carbon precursor mixture, impregnating the carbon precursor mixture into mesoporous silica and subjecting the resultant mixture to heat treatment and carbonization to form a mesoporous silica/carbon composite material, and removing the mesoporous silica from the mesoporous silica/carbon composite material. The thus obtained mesoporous carbon can efficiently transmit electric energy because of its surface resistance characteristics improved by the combined use of the mesophase pitch and the carbon precursor. Therefore, it can be used as an electroconductive material of a fuel cell electrode. Especially when it is used as a catalyst carrier of an electrode, the use of a supported catalyst containing such catalyst carrier makes it possible to fabricate a fuel cell with improved performances such as an efficiency. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
