PREPARATION OF OIL SOLUTION CONTAINING ALKALINE EARTH METAL SALT OF ALKYLPHENOL SULFIDE WITH HIGH BASICITY

PURPOSE:To prepare the titled oil soln. having a low viscocity and excellent oil solubility in a simple operation, by using aminoalcohol as reaction promoter in the reaction of alkylphenol with alkaline earth (hydr)oxide to produce a phenolate. CONSTITUTION:Alkylphenol having a 6-18C alkyl group (e.g. nonylphenol) is made to react with an alkaline earth (hydr)oxide (e.g. calcium hydroxide) in a lubricating oil medium in the presence of aminoalcohol (e.g. ethanolamine) as reaction promoter and elemental sulfur is made to react with the reaction product to produce an alkaline earth metal salt of alkylphenol sulfide. Then a dihydric alcohol (e.g. ethylene glycol) is added to the resultant oil soln. and carbon dioxide gas is blown into it to saturation, followed by removal of the aminoalcohol and dihydric alcohol by distillation to obtain the oil soln.
