AUTOMATIC POWER INTERCEPTION CHAPTER OF A TELEVISION AND THE METHOD

An apparatus and a method for automatically blocking power of a television are provided to reduce power consumption and prevent mechanical damage due to overheat by automatically turning off the power even when a user falls asleep while watching the television or goes out. A filter part(1) receives an external composite video signal and divides it into a Y component having a horizontal synchronizing signal and a C component having a color burst and a color carrier. The first A/D(Analog-to-Digital) converter(2) converts the divided C component into a digital value. The second A/D converter(3) converts the divided Y component into a digital value. A microcomputer(4) compares signals inputted from the first and second A/D converters with each other and outputs a control signal according to a result of the comparison. A power blocking part(5) turns off power of a television in response to the control signal.
