Provided are a membrane electrode assembly to prevent the crossover of fuel into a cathode layer through the gap between a gasket and an anode layer, and a fuel cell containing the membrane electrode assembly. The membrane electrode assembly(10) comprises a catalyst activation part(11, 12) which is formed at the both sides of a membrane(13); a gasket(15) which is connected with the edge part of the each catalyst activation part; and a sealing part(17) which is formed at the gap between the gasket and the catalyst activation part to seal the gap. Preferably the sealing part is made of a hydrophobic fluorocarbon resin. Preferably the fluorocarbon resin is any one selected from the group consisting of polyvinylidene fluoride, fluoroethylene propylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, fluorinated ethylene propylene, polychlorotrifluoroethylene and fluoroethylene polymer. |
