<p>A data processing apparatus and method of a digital broadcasting receiver are provided to store data broadcasting applications in an external storage medium, and then execute the applications in order to reduce an execution time of an application requested by a user. A data processing apparatus of a digital broadcasting receiver includes an application extractor(102), an external connecting interface(104), a controller(106), and an application execution unit(108). The application extractor extracts a data broadcasting application from a received stream. The external connecting interface is connected with an external storage medium(120) to transmit and receive data. The controller receives an index file from the external storage medium when the external connecting interface is connected with the external storage medium, sets an index to the data broadcasting application, and then stores the data broadcasting application in the external storage medium. The application execution unit receives the index of the data broadcasting application, extracts the data broadcasting application corresponding to the index from the external storage medium, and executes the data broadcasting application.</p> |
