A power supply unit and method of a video device are provided to vary an output voltage of the video device according to a mode of the video device and monitor connecting states of a battery and an adaptor to reduce power consumption and provide stabilized power state. A power supply unit(100) of a video device, which generates and stores video data and reproduces the stored video data, includes a storage unit(150), a DC/DC converter(170), and a serial interface(160). The storage unit stores a reference voltage according to a mode of the video device. The reference voltage is used to generate an output voltage supplied to modules of the video device. The DC/DC converter generates the output voltage. The serial interface controls the output voltage generating operation of the DC/DC converter according to the reference voltage stored in the storage unit.
