PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capping sheet replacing work of which can be carried out efficiently when the capping sheet is contaminated with liquid, and to provide a liquid ejector. SOLUTION: The capping sheet has a sheet body 18 equipped with a surface opposing the nozzle forming surface of a recording head. The sheet body 18 is constituted separately from a capping sheet carrying mechanism for carrying the sheet body 18 from a non-capping position where the opposing surface 18a does not oppose the nozzle forming surface to a capping position where the opposing surface 18a opposes the nozzle forming surface. Annular protrusions 20a-20d (sealing portions) are provided on the opposing surface 18a in order to seal the nozzle forming surface by forming a hermetically sealed space between the protrusions and the nozzle forming surface when the sheet body 18 is carried to the capping position by the capping sheet carrying mechanism and the opposing surface 18a moved relatively to approach the nozzle forming surface at the capping position.
