PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus adjustment device and a focus adjustment method which attain reduction in an individual difference in focus adjustment of a camera. SOLUTION: The luminance values of the respective pixels of a imaged video obtained by imaging the image of a test pattern 14 including a black area 2B and a white area 2W by an onboard camera 12 are detected, and a difference value between the luminance value of the first pixel and that of the second pixel away from the first pixel by the predetermined number of pixels in a boundary part between the black area 2B and the white area 2W in the imaged video is calculated. By comparing the calculated difference value with a preset threshold, the propriety of the focusing state of the onboard camera 12 is determined. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
