Emergency release device has a lever mechanism (2) which is arranged between an abutment (10) and a friction member (13) of the brake (1). An electric operated hold element (7) holds the lever mechanism in the current-conducting condition in a rigid position and releases the lever mechanism in the no-current condition. An independent claim is included for the brake device for motor vehicles.
