PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus, a method, a program and a storage medium for reading an image to urge a user to clean a reading glass at an adequate timing. SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus is provided with an ADF 100 and a reader portion 200, and the ADF 100 is provided with a CPU 800, a ROM 801, a RAM 802, an output port, and an input port. When a spread of an abnormal area detected by an image reading operation is a value set in advance or less, a correction process of a read image is conducted. When the detected spread of the abnormal area is over the value set in advance, the correction of the read image is not processed but a warning is displayed by a warning unit 306.
