This digital device for measuring speed comprises at least one impedance matching and shaping circuit 1, which is connected to at least one phase of an alternator and which produces a periodic rectangular signal having a frequency corresponding to that of the voltage of the alternator, at least one counting and storage circuit 2, which receives the said periodic rectangular signal and which, at each period of the latter, produces and stores a digitial value which is directly proportional to the period of the voltage of the alternator, and a digital computation circuit 3, which is connected to the output of the counting and storage circuit 2 and which calculates the frequency of the voltage of the alternator and the speed of the latter from the digital value stored. <IMAGE>
