The method involves registering a data sample for each training sequence in a phase position relative to a reference clock signal. The data samples are generated in a semiconductor memory component and are compared with data samples that are stored in the memory component. A pass/fail signal is produced by a signal pin of the memory component during compliance or discrepancy of the received data samples with the stored data samples. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a semiconductor memory component for performing a method for optimizing data reception (2) a semiconductor memory system for performing the method for optimizing data reception.
