PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing platinum nanoparticles, which can selectively and easily control a plane direction of the platinum nanoparticles.

SOLUTION: The method for producing the platinum nanoparticles having a particular plane direction includes the steps of: mixing a solution containing an ionic platinum compound, a specifically adsorptive chemical species and a stabilization polymer; and growing a single crystal of platinum by depositing platinum from the solution containing the ionic platinum compound. The specifically adsorptive chemical species is a cation or an anion.
