PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid defects of a conventional technology and reduce cost of a metal halide arc discharge lamp. SOLUTION: The metal halide arc discharge lamp of 400W includes a lamp outer tube, an arc tube attached in the lamp outer tube, a shroud surrounding the arc tube, an electrical drop wire supplying electric energy to the arc tube, and a chemical filling in the arc tube emitting light at the time of forming of arc in the arc tube. The shroud has a predetermined thickness T and a predetermined inner diameter ID, where, T is less than 2 mm, and ID/T is smaller than 22. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
