PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable musical instrument and a program. SOLUTION: The portable musical instrument 100 is provide with an operating part 102 which takes a first state or a second state dependently on strength by which a left key 112 or a right key 113 is pressed. In a hierarchy of a hierarchical file structure in which musical composition data are stored, a current directory to be processed is moved to a one rank-higher or one rank-lower hierarchy in response to a left key 112- or right key 113-pressing operation with a first pressing in the operating part 102. In response to a left key 112- or right key 113-pressing operation with a second pressing, the current directory to be processed is moved to the lowest hierarchy. By this, operability relating to operations for moving directories in the hierarchies of the hierarchical file structure is improved without miniaturizing the operating buttons of the operating part 102, or increasing the number of the operating buttons and deteriorating the responses to depression of the operating buttons.
