Disclosed are compounds of formula (I) wherein: n is 0, 1 or 2; a-b represents CF=CH, CHFCH2, or CF2CH2; R1 is H, hydroxymethyl, or alkyl unsubstituted or substituted by F atoms; R2 is H; R3 is selected from alkyl, (CH2)n-cycloheteroalkyl, and (CH2)n-aryl, wherein aryl is as defined; or R2 and R3 together form a 5 or 6 membered saturated ring fused with a 5- or 6- membered aromatic ring system having 0, 1 or 2 heteroatoms selected from N, O, and S. Compounds of the type disclosed are androgen receptor modulators useful for treating conditions caused by androgen deficiency or ameliorated by androgen replacement.
