<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing activated carbon by which the activated carbon is always uniformly activated thereby the activated carbon having a large and uniform surface area is manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing activated carbon comprises the steps of: mixing 89-98.9 mass% powder of a phenolic resin, 1-10 mass% pitch and 0.1-1 mass% polyvinyl alcohol; granulating the obtained mixture; carbonizing the granulated mixture; and activating the carbonized mixture.
