PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift control device for an automatic transmission, which prevents generation of unnecessary down shift during kick down operation. SOLUTION: This shift control device for the automatic transmission equipped with: an automatic shifting mode for determining a shift stage or a speed ratio to be set, based on a traveling state and performing shift operation; and a manual shifting mode for performing shift operation instructed by manual operation of a driver, and also is provided with: a shift determination means for determining a kind of shifting upon traveling in the automatic shifting mode; and a manual shifting mode transfer forbidding means for forbidding shift operation based on the shift instruction by manual operation of the driver during shifting when the shift instruction of down shift by manual operation of the driver is made during shifting in the automatic shifting mode, and shifting in execution is determined as down shift in operation of an accelerator by the shift determination means.
